Willowdale Steeplechase Volunteer Opportunities
No Charitable event can be successful without volunteers and our event is no exception. We are extremely fortunate to have some very loyal people as our Volunteer Committee Chairpersons. Volunteers are vital to the preparations and the event itself. We hope you will join us to help organize a day filled with fun and excitement.
Information Booth
If marketing and sales interests you, our Information Booth just might be what you're looking for. Within this booth we sell Race Programs, T-Shirts, Polo Shirts, Hats and Pins on race day. During the year we develop signs and displays that will help show Willowdale Steeplechase Race Fans what is available in the most attractive manner. This booth also helps people locate different areas of the grounds - Food Court, The Willowdale Shops, Kid's Alley, Corporate Row, Parking spaces, etc. These shifts will be approximately 2 hours each. If you are organized, like to sell and interact with people, this is the place for you!
Jack Russell Terrier Races
The JR Terrier Races will need two volunteers, one volunteer for trophy coordination and the other as a runner to relay any information or equipment necessary for the event. These races will take approximately 1 hour of the day,
11:00 am to 12:00 noon. If you like these little rascals and have as much energy as they do, this is the place for you!
Kid's Alley
There are several areas in which volunteers are needed in Kid's Alley, where working with children to make and race stick ponies or helping with the experiments are fun and educational for everyone. There are several other exhibits in Kid's Alley that also need volunteer help for race day. Each shift will be approximately 2 hours. If you enjoy working with children, this is the place for you!
Parking
Each gate will need some volunteers to assist patrons in finding their parking space in the section
indicated by their car hang tag. Each shift will be approximately 2 hours. If you would like to help people who might be unfamiliar with our system of parking, and don't mind walking and waving your arms a lot, this is the place for you!
Pony and Junior Races
The Pony and Junior Races will need one person to help keep things running smoothly. They will need to assist the Pony and Junior Race Chairman and to relay any information or equipment necessary. The pony races are run between
12:15 pm and 1:30 pm. If you would enjoy helping the future riders and are comfortable being around race ponies and horses, this is the place for you!
Ticket Outlet Coordinator
We have several established Ticket Outlets that need to have tickets and flyers delivered in April and money picked up after race day. We would like someone to help develop more outlets throughout the surrounding area. This committee would have to call and go into stores and businesses promoting The Willowdale Steeplechase and the benefits of being a ticket outlet for our event. (Some of our outlets are great women's shoe stores, tack shops, flower shops, real estate offices, and car dealerships.) If you like to visit different shops and businesses throughout the area, this is the place for you!
Trophy Coordinator
Our Trophy Coordinator will need volunteers to help polish trophies prior to race day and also assist her on race day. As a volunteer you will help to set up the trophy table display and, starting with the Pony and Junior Horse races, the trophies will be presented in the winner's circle after each race throughout the afternoon. The presenting Sponsors and the proper trophies must be brought to the winner's circle for each presentation and the winner of the trophy for that race must sign a release form. This is a very responsible job but a terrific way to be in the thick of things. If you want to just polish trophies, that would be great. If you think this sounds like a great way to spend Mother's Day, this is the place for you!
Volunteer Office Help
Throughout the year there are many different projects to be done in our office. If you like answering phones, doing mass mailings or general office work, we would appreciate your efforts whether it be one day a week or only at crunch time. If you don't mind doing many different projects with terrific people for
important beneficiaries, this is the place for you!
