About The Willowdale Steeplechase

Set in the heart of Chester County Hunt Country, The Willowdale Steeplechase Races provide world-class Steeplechase racing as well as a full day of family-oriented activities. As a sanctioned race meet by the National Steeplechase Association and we are able to attract some of the best racehorses and top jockeys from around the world. Enjoy the thrilling excitement as horses and their jockeys race on one of the most beautiful steeplechase race courses in the country. Set in a natural amphitheatre the course features traditional European hedges, post and rail fences and a spectacular water jump. Willowdale’s race course location allows for terrific viewing angles from all over the course. Last spring over 12,000 spectators attended our race.

Held each year on Mother's Day, the Willowdale Steeplechase is a great way to enjoy a day with family and friends while supporting local charities at the same time. The Willowdale Steeplechase, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our beneficiaries for the 2009 races are Quest Therapeutic Services, The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine New Bolton Center and The Stroud Water Research Center. Through the help of Willowdale, Quest is able to offer hippo-therapy to physically and mentally disabled children who would otherwise not be able to afford the cost of treatment. New Bolton Center is the premier equine medical facility in the country. The Stroud Water Research center provides critical research on water resource management.

Enjoy the thrills, sportsmanship and horsemanship as horses and riders run on one of the most beautiful race courses in the country. The course features traditional European hedges, post and rail fences and an exciting water jump adjacent to the sloping hillside spectator area. British Safety Wings were an addition in 2001 adding to the safety for both jockeys and horses. Enjoy not only the exciting steeplechase race, but also pony races, the ever-popular Jack Russell Terrier races, a beautiful Carriage parade and display, the Kids' Alley tent filled with activities for children of all ages, antique cars display, Tractor display, Willowdale shops and food vendors. The tailgate competition is open to all parking space patrons.
